Are You Experiencing Sight Loss?

Are You Experiencing Sight Loss?

If you think that you or a family member is experiencing sight loss, you may be unsure of what to do next. In many cases, sight loss is caused by treatable conditions. At Vision Professionals of Leawood, our optometry staff is here to help you choose what to do next when it comes to vision loss.
Signs of Sight Loss

Vision loss often comes on gradually, which can make it difficult to know that it's happening. If you notice any of the following signs happening to you or a family member, it's important to make an appointment with an optometrist right away.

- Regularly purchasing new reading glasses (more than once a year)

- Cleaning glasses or rinsing contact lenses over and over again in an attempt to improve vision

- Difficulty navigating places that are new or unfamiliar, despite the area being clearly marked and well lit

- Anxiety when visiting new places alone

- Brightening or dimming lights in an attempt to improve sight

- Squinting while reading, watching TV, or driving

- Holding screens abnormally close, or sitting abnormally close to a screen

- Sometimes, sight loss accompanies other visual conditions. You may notice redness or swelling in or around the eye along with difficulty seeing. If you notice these symptoms, it's important to see an optometrist right away, as these can be indicators of a condition that can cause permanent loss of sight.
