What to Expect During a Contact Lens Fitting

If you are interested in wearing contact lenses, you may be wondering what will happen when you make an exam with our optometrist for a contact lenses fitting. First, contact Vision Professionals of Leawood to schedule a session with our practitioner. Read over the following information to help prepare you for your appointment.

Bring Along Any Necessary Information

Before your exam date, gather any important documentation in your possession pertaining to your eye health and prescription history to give to our practitioner for assessment. Alternately, have any prior practices send paperwork directly to our office. Contact your insurance company to inquire about the coverage your provider will honor so you are aware of any costs that will need to be paid out-of-pocket.

A Routine Exam and Fitting Is Conducted

A routine eye examination is given to check your eyes for health problems. This is done with visual inspection and non-invasive tests using lighting and equipment in our office. Afterward, your prescription will be checked to determine what strength of contact lenses you will require.  Contact lense fitting is also done at this time. This is done by looking into an eyepiece while our practitioner measures the irises of your eyes while sitting opposite you.

Try on Contact Lenses and Learn To Care for Them

Our practitioner will provide you with a pair of temporary contact lenses to try on in our office to ensure they are a perfect fit. Your eyes will be checked with these lenses in place. You will be instructed on how to care for them properly during your visit. If you have never worn contact lenses in the past, a demonstration on how to place them in your eyes and take them out again will be given as well.
